About

Jewelry has always been Paulina’s fixation. It started early as she picked through family heirlooms and identified the watermelon tourmalines in her grandmother’s cabochon cuff. When she was nine, she got her first piece of “real” jewelry — a watermelon tourmaline pendant of her own. It was not until age eighteen that she realized jewelry could be a career and she moved to NYC. There she worked for a number of different designers, obtained her Graduate Gemologist degree from the GIA, and honed her metalsmithing skills at the Jewelry Arts Institute.

Paulina strives to create pieces that are colorful yet versatile, bold yet everyday, spirited yet refined. She works with high karat gold and individualistic gemstones, each its own source of inspiration. Watermelon tourmalines remain her favorite.

The Technique

Paulina Warren Jewelry is based in Vail, CO. It is 100% handmade from beginning to end — everything, except for a few specialized tasks, is done in-house in our small garage studio.

Using ancient jewelry making techniques, 24kt shot is alloyed to 20kt or 22kt and hand milled into sheet or wire. Each piece is then created from those simple elements (castings are used sparingly). We choose high karat gold because it maintains the bright and luminous characteristics of gold in its purest form. 20kt and 22kt gold each have specific metallurgical qualities — 22kt can fuse to itself, eliminating the need for solder, while 20kt is slightly stronger and is used when strength is required.

The gemstones speak for themselves. Each one is hand-picked for its individual characteristics and personality — inclusions, odd shapes, and unusual colors or patterns are admired and preferred.
